Wedding Legal Requirements

Please note: This information is a guideline for British Passport holders only. These requirements can change at any time, it is therefore advisable to speak with your Caribbean Classics Wedding Co-ordinator for the latest guidelines.

Non-British passport holders or those with documents issued outside the UK should contact their local embassy.


Antigua Wedding Legal Requirements

  • Minimum age 18 years old
  • There is no residency period to marry in Antigua although we do recommend at least one day to give you time to apply for your marriage licence in Antigua prior to the wedding day and also in case of flight delays

Documents required:

  • A valid UK Passport, issued for 10 years with at least 6 months after your return date to UK before expiry
  • Your original Birth Certificate, showing both parent's names
  • If divorced, the original of your Decree Absolute
  • If you have been widowed, the original copy of your partner's Death Certificate and Marriage Certificate
  • If you were adopted, the original copy of your Adoption Certificate


You will need to visit the Ministry of Legal Affairs in St. Johns, Antigua to apply for your marriage licence.

It is very important that all original documents must be taken with you when you travel.

 

Barbados Wedding Legal Requirements

  • Minimum age 18 years old
  • Minimum residency period prior to marriage is 1 working day

Documents required:

  • A valid UK Passport, issued for 10 years with at least 6 months after your return date to UK before expiry
  • Your original Birth Certificate, showing both parent's names
  • If divorced, the original of your Decree Absolute
  • If you have been widowed, the original copy of your partner's Death Certificate and Marriage Certificate
  • If you were adopted, the original copy of your Adoption Certificate


You will need to visit the Ministry of Home Affairs in Bridgetown, Barbados to apply for your marriage licence.

It is very important that all original documents must be taken with you when you travel.

 

St. Lucia Wedding Legal Requirements

  • Minimum age 18 years old
  • Minimum residency period prior to marriage is 3 working days


Documents required:

  • A valid UK Passport, issued for 10 years with at least 6 months after your return date to UK before expiry
  • Your original Birth Certificate, showing both parent's names
  • If divorced, the original of your Decree Absolute
  • If you have been widowed, the original copy of your partner's Death Certificate and Marriage Certificate
  • If you were adopted, the original copy of your Adoption Certificate


It is very important that all original documents must be taken with you when you travel.

 

Jamaica Wedding Legal Requirements

  • Minimum age 18 years old
  • Minimum residency period prior to marriage is 2 working days


Documents required:

  • A valid UK Passport, issued for 10 years with at least 6 months after your return date to UK before expiry
  • Your original Birth Certificate, showing both parent's names
  • If divorced, the original of your Decree Absolute
  • If you have been widowed, the original copy of your partner's Death Certificate and Marriage Certificate
  • If you were adopted, the original copy of your Adoption Certificate


Notarised copies of documents are required to be sent by DHL to your Jamaica hotel prior to arrival. There will be a charge for this.

It is very important that all original documents must be taken with you when you travel.

 

Grenada Wedding Legal Requirements

  • Minimum age 21 years old
  • Minimum residency period prior to marriage is 6 working days


Documents required:

  • A valid UK Passport, issued for 10 years with at least 6 months after your return date to UK before expiry
  • Your original Birth Certificate, showing both parent's names
  • If divorced, the original of your Decree Absolute
  • If you have been widowed, the original copy of your partner's Death Certificate and Marriage Certificate
  • If you were adopted, the original copy of your Adoption Certificate


Notarised copies of documents are required to be sent to your Grenada hotel prior to arrival.

It is very important that all original documents must be taken with you when you travel.

 

Mexico Wedding Legal Requirements

  • Minimum age 18 years old
  • Minimum residency period prior to marriage is 5 working day
  • A compulsory blood test is taken in resort (local charge applies)
  • Legalised documents will need to be translated in resort (local charge applies)


Documents required:

  • A valid UK Passport, issued for 10 years with at least 6 months after your return date to UK before expiry
  • Your original Birth Certificate, showing both parent's names
  • If divorced, the original of your Decree Absolute
  • If you have been widowed, the original copy of your partner's Death Certificate and Marriage Certificate
  • If you were adopted, the original copy of your Adoption Certificate


Depending on your personal circumstances it may be necessary to have some or all of your documents legalised in the UK prior to travel. It remains your personal responsibility to check your documents with the relevant embassy prior to travel.
