Galley Bay Resort and Spa is tucked away in a corner of the beautiful Caribbean island of Antigua, complete with its own cove and fabulous three quarter mile long white, sandy beach. The rooms of the hotel are all just a step from the beach where guests can relax under a palm tree or take a quiet swim in the safe, warm waters of the Caribbean.
* Adults Only Resort
Because of the size and unmatched beauty of the beach, it plays a large part in the fun available at Galley Bay. Apart from swimming and sunbathing there is plenty of real activity to get your teeth into. The hotel offers a range of non-powered craft such as kayaks, Sunfish sailing boats, windsurfers and Hobie cats to enjoy and, for those who aren’t familiar with these items, instructors are on hand to assist.
If you prefer to get your action on land then the tennis courts and jogging trails are the answer. There is also a fully-equipped fitness centre where you can continue your training schedule or perhaps start a new one. A freshwater swimming pool is close by for people who would rather lounge and float close to the hotel’s amenities.
A little bit of pampering never comes amiss, especially when you’re on holiday, and the hotel’s spa, Indulge, will provide all the pampering you will need. There is a full range of beauty and spa treatments and a range outdoor treatment cabanas on stilts.
Antigua is fast becoming one of the most popular destinations for a Caribbean wedding because of its enchanting beauty and romantic atmosphere. The Galley Bay makes it easy for anyone to be married there and has a range of packages that will help to take the strain out of organising such an important event.
As part of its all-inclusive tariff meals are included in the holiday price at the Galley Bay. All restaurants are beachfront and a la carte. Buffet options are available for breakfast and there is also a weekly barbecue.
The Sea Grape
This restaurant is the main place to eat at Galley Bay and serves all three meals of the day. Highlight of the week is the barbecue accompanied by the rhythms of an authentic steel band.
At the Gauguin the emphasis is on intimacy as dinner is served in your private cabana. The cuisine is based on European, Pacific and West Indian dishes and varies each day.
Ismay's Restaurant & Bar
This new restaurant is right on the beach and specialises in seafood and traditional dishes from the local area. Please note, there is a supplement for dining at Ismay's Restaurant.
The accommodation at Galley Bay Resort and Spa comprises traditional rooms, suites and individual cottages. They are all fully equipped with modern luxury fittings and furnishings and are brightly decorated to make the most of the Caribbean light.
Superior Beachfront Rooms
Beautifully situated on the beach, these superior rooms have high ceilings and feature a private terrace. The ensuite bathrooms have a shower but no bath. To enhance the tropical isle feeling the rooms are decorated with art from local artists and feature rattan furnishings with louvered windows.
Deluxe Beachfront Rooms
These rooms are found in either a one or two storey building which is right on the beach. They all have large wardrobes and bathrooms. The upper level rooms have wonderful views of the beach and sea whilst the ground floor rooms have direct access to the beach.
The Gauguin Suites are situated on the edge of a bird sanctuary lagoon, starting just 50 yards from the beach. Each romantic suite consists of two thatched rondovals with a large enclosed air conditioned sitting area that provides views of the garden and plunge pool - one rondoval is the bedroom - the other a bath/dressing room (shower only). The Gauguin Suites have cool white tile flooring with stone accents. Each Gauguin Suite has a plunge pool which is either rectangular or freeform in shape, each one concealed from its neighbour by a combination of the lush tropical vegetation and screens made from natural wood branches. They are flanked by paved sun decks and come with an outdoors shower.
Premium Beachfront Suites
As the name suggests, these suites are situated in a prime location on the lovely Galley Bay beach. The suites are not typically Caribbean in decor: they have king size beds and dark hardwood furniture set off by accents of granite. Located on two floors, there are floor to ceiling doors that open directly onto the beach on the ground floor suites and onto a private balcony on the upper floor suites.
To offer guests the chance to really get away from it all, suites are available without the usual trappings of modern life such as a TV, DVD player, iPod dock and wireless internet access. These items are all available should you want them.
The beautifully equipped bathrooms have two showers and a large corner bath for two, and there is a range of luxury toiletries. From the living room you can access the balcony which has a beach shower and rattan occasional furniture.
